Dear Bret,
Thank you for all the symbols of your love you left for
me. Significance was one of your best
things, because that is how you navigated your relationships. And that investment has made the difference
for me. I know you aren't in the things,
as our children so frequently remind me, when I have lost another thing that
belonged to you, and I am hyperventilating over it. But the love and thought that you infused
into that moment in time is what stays with me and leaves the lasting
impact. Now, our seemingly, silly
"I love you" hand sign has become frozen in time, burned into my
heart forever, because it was the last thing you said to me before you
died. I can see it like it was
yesterday, although it was three years ago today, as you were framed in the doorway
on the gurney, you threw up our hand sign, so I would know (even though you
were on your way to the hospital thinking you were having a heart attack) you
were always thinking of me and loving me first.
Your love has made me a better person, Babe, and I will never stop
loving you!
